backstory
Being heir of the teyrn, Elissa was trained in combat as well as diplomacy. Living a peaceful life, she never actually needed to use those skills unless the beginning of Fifth Blight.
When most of Fereldans were concerned about the army of darkspawns flooding their land, young noble lost almost her entire family when house Cousland liege, arl Howe seized their castle after Fergus, her brother, led their family's army to help the King fight Blight. Elissa managed to flee, accompanied by Grey Warden Duncan who wanted her to join the Wardens in exchange for saving her life.
They headed to Ostagar, where King Cailan and his army prepared to face the darkspawns in the battle. Due to teyrn Loghain's treachery and his terribly fortunate retreat, both Grey Wardens, King and his forces were slaughted by enemies. Elissa and her new friend named Alistair, who didn't take part in the battle, given a responsible task to light signal fire for Loghain's unit, were one of the few survivors. Rescued by a witch Flemeth they recovered from major injuries in her house, deep in the wilds, where they learned the awful truth. Being the only Grey Wardens in Ferelden they had to use old treaties and gather an army big enough to defeat the darkspawns...
To make the matters worse, prove their innocence - as teyrn Loghain claimed that it were the Wardens who are responsible of King's demise.
